I had a song I'd written the bass line for that I'd called "Party, Party, Party." I even had a set of lyrics about a party that had gotten so wild that the house itself took off and flew up into the sky. But I'd never shown it off to anyone or jammed with anyone to work out what the rest of the instrument parts could be. David was the first one I ever played it with. We tried a couple of takes without the recorder on and he discovered this swoopy, shrieking effect by setting the reverb box into a weird mess of settings. I stopped him in the middle of one take and mentioned it to him. He reluctantly asked if I wanted him to turn it down. "No," I replied. "I want MORE!" He grinned from ear to ear, manipulated the controls just a bit, and we started recording. When we were done, we found that we'd accidentally covered the Hawkwind song "Silver Machine," or as close to being a cover version as anyone not actually *trying* to do it could manage. Once the internet came along, I posted this recording to a Hawkwind fan site dedicated to cover versions of their songs. People there agreed that while it sounded like Hawkwind, it wasn't actually close enough to "Silver Machine" to get any lawyers excited.
